Want more information on some of the books behind the latest movies? The Nanny Diaries opens in theaters on August 24th. Here's the book that started in all. The Nanny Diaries
by Emma Mclaughlin (Author), Nicola Kraus (Author) Before The Devil Wears Prada and Little Pink Slips, there was The Nanny Diaries…. This impossible to put down book is a glimpse into the Manhattan social strata and the bazaar world of childcare. Written by two former Nanny’s (whose days of caring for spoiled little rich kids is no doubt over) The Nanny Diaries is absolutely addictive glimpse into the totally over-the-top world of child rearing in Manhattan. Nan, the aptly named Nanny, is in charge of Grayer, the 4-year-old son of Mr and Mrs X, who is so overscheduled he should have been issued a blackberry at birth. With everything from French lessons to ice skating (did I mention he was only four?), this book is richly deserved of the millions its sold (as well as the forthcoming movie). As our gal Nanny Nan navigates the treacherous waters of child-rearing, she finds herself becoming more and more protective over Grayer as his parents continue to delve into their narcissistic world of glamour and keeping up with the Jones’s. Mrs X is unbelievably rude to Nanny and even though some of her comments and orders make you cringe, you can’t wait to turn the page to see what she’ll order Nan to do next. When Mrs X discovers her husband is cheating on her, she takes out her anger on Nan and continues to neglect her son who at this point would struggle to pick his parents out of a lineup. The Nanny Diaries is fun, funny, heartwarming and yet another reason to cheer for the underdog who, in the end, gets more than you ever thought she would. |
